Make room for stories about learning and thoughtful arguments about school life.

01 Narrative Years 3–9

For one lesson, the students become the teachers. Everything is planned, until someone asks a question nobody expected.

Think about

Support: Choose a skill you know and imagine explaining its first step to someone else.
Extend: Use dialogue to reveal a change in how two characters understand each other.

02 Narrative Years 3–9

A character is ready to give up on something they want to learn. A small moment with a teacher changes what happens next.

Think about

Support: Talk through how the character feels before and after the small moment.
Extend: Show the change through an action or detail rather than naming the emotion.

03 Persuasive Years 3–9

Should teachers take more lessons outside the classroom? Write to persuade your principal of your view.

Think about

Support: Choose one lesson and explain what would change if it took place outside.
Extend: Suggest when outdoor learning would help and when a classroom would be more suitable.

04 Persuasive Years 3–9

What is the most important quality of a great teacher? Choose one quality and convince a reader that it matters most.

Think about

Support: Choose a quality such as patience, curiosity or clear explanation and describe an example.
Extend: Acknowledge another valuable quality and explain why you give yours priority.

Think about learning

Talk about a time someone helped you understand something. It might have been a teacher, classmate or family member. Students can use an imagined example if they prefer.
Find the detail

Choose a prompt and one specific moment or reason to develop. Ask what a reader needs to see, hear or understand.
Write for a reader

Invite students to check whether their meaning is clear to a partner. Sharing a piece with a teacher is optional; the writing can stay in their workbook.

After they write

Each student gets feedback on their draft, and you see patterns across the class.

Feedback they can act on NAPLAN criterion scores come with advice about the piece: what is working and a clear next step.
