1. About this notice
This notice explains browser storage and form handling on the Writing Boost website. Read it alongside our Privacy policy, which explains our purposes, information sharing, retention and your rights.
2. Remembering resource access
When you request a classroom resource, we save your email address and request in our contact system. Spelling resources also collect your school or organisation name and role.
We use local storage to remember that you have completed the access form. This preference contains an access flag and version, without your email address or other personal details. It has no set expiry and remains until site storage is cleared or the access version changes. If storage is blocked, access can still be remembered for the current page visit.
Downloading a writing prompt alone does not subscribe you to marketing or request a school sales follow-up. Free spelling-test access requires you to check the form’s marketing-consent box; we record that consent with the request. You can unsubscribe or ask us to stop contacting you at any time.
The student videos work the same way: one email opens every video in your browser. As the line under the button says, giving your email also subscribes you to emails from Writing Boost, and we record that line with your request. If you say who you are (a teacher, a parent or carer, a tutor or something else), we save that too, with the video you started from if you began from one. We also keep, in this browser only, a list of the videos that have played through, so they can be marked as watched; it is not sent to us.
The mailing list at the foot of each page saves your email address in our contact system and subscribes it to our monthly email, as the line above the field says; we record that line, the page you joined from and the time with your sign-up. No access flag or email is kept in your browser. You can unsubscribe using the link in any of these emails.
3. School pricing activity
When you view an estimate, we may record your selected school, year levels and enrolments in our contact system with random browser and session identifiers. These help us understand pricing interest and associate a later proposal request with the estimates you explored.
- Browser identifier: stored in local storage and valid for 30 days from creation. An expired identifier is replaced when pricing activity next uses it.
- Session identifier: stored in session storage and valid for 30 minutes of inactivity, or until that tab’s session ends. Using it during pricing activity refreshes the inactivity period.
These identifiers are pseudonymous: they do not contain your name or email, but pricing records may be associated with your contact details and school enquiry if you later request a proposal. The activity is therefore not necessarily anonymous.
Identifier expiry does not automatically delete records already received by our contact system. Their retention follows section 10 of our privacy policy.
4. How you arrived
On each page with our site header we note how you arrived: any campaign details in the link you followed (such as the newsletter, advertisement or social media post it came from), the address of the page that linked you here, the page you landed on and the time. Addresses are kept without their query strings, so they hold no names, emails or access codes.
We keep two of these notes in local storage: your first arrival, which stands for 90 days, and your most recent arrival from another site or a campaign link. They stay in your browser. They are sent to us only when you give your email for our free course, Inside the marking guide, where they tell us which page or post led you to it.
5. The free course, Inside the marking guide
One of the course’s films is open to everyone, and each of the others plays a preview. The whole of each film opens when you give your email address. We save that address in our contact system and subscribe it to emails from Writing Boost, as the line under the button says; we keep that line and the time with your sign-up, and you can unsubscribe at any time. With your address we save the two arrival notes described above and, if you came by a school’s link, which link it was.
- Your access: the answer to your sign-up is a random access code. We keep it in local storage, with a share code of your own, so the films stay open in this browser. It is never put in a page address, and your email address is not kept in the browser. It has no set expiry and remains until site storage is cleared or the access is switched off. On another device you give your email again.
- A school’s link: an address with a share code in it. It says who passed the course on, and lets nobody in. If you arrive by one, we keep its code in local storage, keep it on the course’s addresses while you use them, and send it with your sign-up and with what you watch, so we know which school and which colleague sent you.
- Your school, first name and role: asked once you are in, and optional. What you give is saved with your sign-up. Giving a school makes a school’s link of your own to pass on.
- What you watch: we record course pages opened, previews played, the access card being shown, films started, how far each was played (a quarter, half, three quarters, and to the end), handouts opened, a school’s link being copied and certificates viewed. Before you give your email these are kept only as daily totals (and, if you came by a school’s link, as totals for that link), with nothing that identifies you. Once you have given your email they are recorded against your sign-up, and we use them to see how the course is used and to choose which emails from Writing Boost to send you. Our contact system keeps them while you are subscribed; after you unsubscribe, we delete or de-identify them once they are no longer needed, as section 10 of our privacy policy explains. To tell one browser from another we store a random browser identifier in local storage, valid for 180 days, and a session identifier in session storage. They are sent with what you watch and with your sign-up; for what you watch, our contact system keeps a scrambled form of the browser identifier in place of the identifier itself.
- Kept in this browser only: which films have played through, where you left each film so it can pick up there, whether captions were on, and whether you answered or put aside the optional question about your school. These are not sent to us; the certificate form starts with the films that have played through already ticked.
- Certificates: a certificate saves the name you enter, your school if we know it and the films you tick, so it can be shown again at its own address, and we email that address to you. Anyone with the address can view the certificate.
6. Forms and security
Demo, support, booking and proposal forms send the details shown on the form to our contact and scheduling services, with relevant source and security information. School demo bookings and proposal requests ask us to contact you about that enquiry.
Checks for automated submissions may process browser and device signals. Our service provider table explains the providers involved in website delivery and security, including overseas processing.
7. Your controls
You can clear or block local and session storage in your browser settings. You may need to complete a resource form again after clearing storage.
We skip pricing observations when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, or browser storage is unavailable. The pricing calculator and proposal request remain usable.
When your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we also keep no arrival notes and no browser or session identifier for the course, and your sign-up carries only the details of the page it is sent from. Before you give your email, nothing you watch is recorded. After, what you watch is recorded against your sign-up as described above. Your access and your place in the films are still kept in your browser, because the films need them.
Clearing browser storage does not delete information already sent to us. To request access or correction, or discuss deletion, contact support@writingboost.com.au. Our privacy policy explains how we handle requests.
