Your class’s writing, marked on every criterion in minutes
Each piece is marked on the NAPLAN writing criteria. Every student gets feedback to act on, and you see what to teach explicitly next, and to whom.
What you get
-
See the class beyond an average
Compare results criterion by criterion, with the Writing Boost year-level cohort in the same genre as a reference. Find strengths and shared needs for your next lesson.
-
Keep every learner in view
The mastery grid shows how each student is doing. Follow any result back to the writing and feedback behind it.
-
Groups for targeted teaching
Smart Groups bring together students who share something to work on in one genre, ready for an explicit small-group lesson. Switch to strengths to pair students up.
-
Spelling, from their own writing
The word wall shows the words your class misspelt in their writing, in spelling tasks, or in both. Open any word for its sounds, parts and family, and what each student actually wrote.
How it works
- 01
Set the task with an illustrated prompt or one of your own.
- 02
Gather the writing from typed drafts or handwritten pages. Review the transcript before sending paper-based work for marking.
- 03
Notice a shared need in the criterion results for the genre.
- 04
Teach explicitly by modelling the skill, then teaching small groups or pairing students up.
- 05
Redraft and review with feedback beside the draft, and talk through the changes.
In your classroom
-
Typed or handwritten work
Let students begin on screen or on paper. Capture handwritten work, review the editable transcript and keep the original page in view before marking.
-
A starting point for the whole class
Choose an illustrated writing prompt or set a task for your students.
-
Feedback connected to the piece
Read criterion scores alongside advice about the writing, and help students choose a passage to work on.
-
Make the next draft part of the lesson
Students can keep feedback beside their writing and compare versions. Talk about what changed, why they changed it and what they might try next.
-
Writing worth coming back to
The student bookshelf keeps every piece and its feedback together, ready for the next conversation.

Frequently asked questions
Does this replace teacher judgement?
No. Writing Boost brings evidence, feedback and possible teaching opportunities into view. Teachers interpret the work, choose priorities and decide how to respond.
How does it support the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers?
Standard 5 asks teachers to assess student learning, give feedback, make consistent and comparable judgements and interpret student data. Writing Boost does the first read of every piece on the same criteria, so your time goes to the professional part: checking the evidence, moderating with colleagues and deciding what to teach.
What are the class results compared with?
The criterion comparison uses the Writing Boost year-level cohort within the same writing genre. It is a platform reference, not a national benchmark.
How do Smart Groups help?
Smart Groups show students who share a learning need or strength, helping you plan targeted small-group teaching or peer support, in class or as part of your school’s tiered support.
Can I bring in handwritten work?
Yes. Capture the paper, review the editable transcript and send it for marking. The original page stays visible during review.
Can I get Writing Boost for just my class?
Writing Boost is sold as one annual school plan, so a teacher cannot buy it for a single class. A school can start with one year level. Send the one-page school summary to whoever leads teaching and learning at your school: it has what Writing Boost does, the price and how a school starts.
What does the school plan include and how do we get a price?
Writing Boost + Spelling Boost in one school plan, from $1,000 per year, excluding GST. Teacher and leadership access and guided onboarding are included. Prep/Foundation, Year 1 and Years 10–12 are included free with a paid plan, where offered. Paid year levels are Years 2–9. Find your school on the pricing page, choose your year levels and check enrolments to see your annual price. No demo or contact details are required to explore.
