Learning another language can help people communicate and understand different cultures. Which language should students have the chance to learn? Write to convince your principal that it should be taught.

Think about

Which language would you choose, and why?
How could learning it help students now and later?
What might make it hard to teach, and how could a school manage that?

How to teach persuasive writing

Gather the languages

List the languages students speak, hear at home or would like to learn. Talk about where each one is spoken and what learning it could open up.
Choose a reader to convince

Invite students to choose one language and one reader, such as the principal or the school council. Each reason should come with an example that reader would recognise.
Answer the other side

Ask a partner to raise a fair concern, such as time or finding a teacher. Students add a sentence that responds to it before their conclusion.
