Privacy and trust
Where student work is stored, who can see it and how AI is used.
How we protect school information
These safeguards cover both Writing Boost and Spelling Boost.
-
Australian student data
Student personal information is stored in Australia. AI processing of student writing, marking and feedback takes place in Australia.
-
Role-based access
Students, teachers and leaders have access that fits their role. Permissions keep school information within the classes, schools and systems each person is authorised to work with.
-
AI your school controls
Schools can choose whether AI features are enabled. Student work is processed through approved services, with controls on data use, retention and provider access.
-
Security and backups
Access controls, security reviews and protected backups help safeguard your school’s information. We review the services we use and reassess changes to how they handle data.
Students stay the authors.Teachers keep the teaching.
Feedback gives students a next step to try. Teachers bring the context and professional judgement.
How assessment and feedback work
Questions
Is student work used to train AI models?
No. We do not use student writing or other student information, identified or de-identified, to train or fine-tune AI models. Our student AI arrangements also prohibit providers from using student information for their own model training, fine-tuning or product improvement. We assess providers and changes to their information handling against these commitments and applicable school agreements.
Does every part of the service stay in Australia?
Student personal information is stored in Australia. AI processing of student writing, marking and feedback takes place in Australia. Teacher-generated stimulus images use a separate service that may process prompts in the United States and other countries. Email, website delivery and other supporting services can also involve overseas processing.
What should teachers know before generating an image?
Image generation is separate from student writing and feedback. Use prompts that do not identify students or other people: preparing an image prompt does not guarantee removal of personal information. The image service can process prompts globally. Review generated images before using them in class.
Can you help with our school’s privacy review?
