Consistent writing evidence, in every classroom
Every class marked on the same NAPLAN criteria within minutes. Teachers get evidence for explicit teaching; you see each year level, class beside class. Spelling Boost included.
What you see
-
Each year level, class beside class
Set one writing task for a whole year level. Every class writes to the same prompt in the same week, is marked on the same criteria, and comes back side by side: a common task, common criteria and comparable evidence.
-
Agree the whole-school focus
Read a year level criterion by criterion, with the Writing Boost average for that year level and genre as a reference. See which criteria need work, with each class’s figure beside them, and take one to your PLCs.
-
Evidence between NAPLAN years
NAPLAN reads one piece of writing from each student in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Set a year-level task in any term and it is marked on the same criteria, so you can check a year level against your improvement priority before the next result arrives.
How it works
- 01
Set the focus with a year level and a genre, narrative or persuasive.
- 02
Every class writes to the same prompt in the same week, typed or on paper.
- 03
Read it by criterion within minutes of hand-in. See what is strong across classes and what needs teaching.
- 04
Teach it explicitly with groups made from the writing and feedback each student can use.
- 05
Review the impact as students redraft in their own words. Set the next task and read the year level again.
What teachers do
-
Set a writing task
Teachers choose an illustrated prompt or write their own task. A school leader can set one task for a whole year level, so every class writes to the same prompt. Your year-level figures come from those shared tasks; a task a teacher sets for one class stays in that class’s picture.
-
Take writing on screen or on paper
Students type, or write by hand and give the pages to their teacher. The teacher captures the pages and checks the transcript against the original before sending it for marking.
-
Read marked work, not a marking pile
Each piece comes back with a score on every criterion and feedback for the student. Teachers read it alongside the writing and decide what to teach. Your school chooses whether students see scores.
-
Targeted small-group teaching
Smart Groups bring together students who share a writing need, such as paragraphing or vocabulary, for explicit teaching at the point of need. Teachers can switch to strengths to pair students up.
-
Give students another go
Students keep the feedback beside their writing and try a change in their own words. Every piece stays on a personal bookshelf to come back to.

For your next staff meeting and planning day
Software alone doesn’t lift writing. Inside the marking guide is our free professional learning for staff: eleven short films on the NAPLAN narrative writing marking guide, with a handout for each and a certificate of the time watched. The writing-data review is a protocol for your next planning day: read the evidence by criterion, agree a whole-school focus and set a date to review it.

Frequently asked questions
Can a demo focus on our school improvement priorities?
Yes. Bring the writing goals in your school improvement or annual implementation plan. We can focus the walkthrough on classroom practice, teacher evidence and the leadership view that supports your plan.
Does it support moderation and consistent teacher judgement?
Yes. A year-level task is written by every class to the same prompt and marked on the same criteria, so your teams start moderation from a common reference point and a shared language for writing. Read samples together, compare them with your own judgements and agree what to teach. Teachers keep the professional judgement.
What will teachers need to do?
Set a writing task, or use one a school leader has set for the year level. Typed work is marked when students hand it in. For handwritten work, the teacher captures the pages and checks the transcript against the original before sending it for marking. Teachers read the feedback alongside the writing and decide what to teach.
How does this relate to our NAPLAN writing results?
NAPLAN assesses one piece of writing from each student in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Writing Boost uses the NAPLAN narrative and persuasive criteria on the writing students do in class in between. Scores are not official NAPLAN results or predictions of proficiency levels. Writing Boost is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by ACARA.
Which writing counts towards a year level’s figures?
Tasks set for the whole year level: one prompt, written by every class in the same week. A task a teacher sets for their own class feeds that class’s picture, and year-level analytics keeps those tasks separate from the year-level figures.
Can we start with one year level?
Yes. On the pricing page you choose the year levels to include and see the annual price for that selection, along with what it would cost to add the rest. No contact details are needed to look.
What does Spelling Boost add to a spelling priority?
A structured approach to spelling practice, in the same school plan. Every word is mapped to its sounds, patterns, parts and origin; built-in lists name one focus and bring earlier words back; and missed words come back with clues before the answer. Lists record the Australian Curriculum v9 English content they address, and teachers see what each student actually wrote. How Spelling Boost teaches spelling.
Where are the privacy answers?
The privacy and trust page covers where student data is stored and processed, who has access and how AI is used, and links to the full privacy policy. Bring your school’s requirements to a demo, or ask our team to help with your privacy review.
