About this test Preparation, question formats and teacher notes

Before you start

Ask students to number a page from 1 to 30, or print an answer sheet. Open classroom mode before projecting: the word list stays on this page, and you choose when to reveal each answer.

Use the word list to check paper responses. The free player does not collect or mark student work.

Three ways to practise

  1. 1–18 · Listen and spell

Play the word and its sentence. Students write the word. Replay as often as needed.

  2. 19–24 · Correct the highlighted word

Students write the correct spelling of the highlighted mistake.

  3. 25–30 · Find and correct the mistake

Students find the misspelt word in a sentence and write its correct spelling.

From the Spelling Boost NAPLAN Practice collection, using historical NAPLAN spelling content from 2008–2016. Year levels are a guide: preview the words and choose what fits your class. These are practice resources, not complete official papers or standardised assessments.

More practice with Spelling Boost

  1. Listen and spell

Set a task for your class. Students hear each word in a sentence, in an Australian voice, then make their own attempt.

  2. A rematch with clues

A missed word comes back with clues that unlock one at a time: the kind of miss, the spelling rule, then its syllables and parts. The answer comes last.

  3. Word Explorer

Each word’s sounds, syllables, parts, family and origin in one place, so a tricky spelling connects to words students already know.

  4. What sticks

Words won back in a rematch, and words still right on another task a week later, shown apart.
