Listen with one question
Before reading aloud, choose what to listen for. Is the sequence clear? Does a sentence run on? Are the same words repeated? A single question helps students listen deliberately rather than simply perform the draft.
Pause and mark a place
Encourage writers to pause where the meaning is unclear and mark the passage. Return to one marked place, try a change, then read it again. Listening provides another perspective; it does not replace discussion about ideas and purpose.
